The Liebster Award

Today I’m responding to a sweet nomination from MichiforniaGirl for The Liebster Award, which is given to bloggers as a way to recognize, connect with, and sponsor growing blogs.

I’m answering a few questions that accompany the nomination below:

1. How did you come up with the name of your blog?

Well, it’s pretty self-explanatory :). I started the blog with the intention to share and gain motherhood advice from other mommas.
2. What is your favorite blog post you’ve written thus far?

That’s a tough question. I felt that sharing our allergy story was pretty important for me-it’s been a way for me to cope with that scary experience and also get allergy awareness out in the public eye.
3. Name three things you would do if you won the lottery.

1. Pay off my house, pay off my parents’ homes

2. Pay for baby J’s higher ed

3. Travel-finally take hubbs to Europe, go to India, and build our family getaway home

Ok ok…so that was more than 3. A girl can dream!
4. What is the next big decision you have to make?

Where to take a personal business venture. I’ve mentioned that I’m a college instructor. I’m also considering opening a private practice-it’s both exciting and extremely overwhelming. Overextending myself seems to be my new forte ;).
5. Describe either your most embarrassing moment or your biggest pet peeve.

Hmmmm, let’s save face and go with a pet peeve-I don’t have many, but laziness and sarcasm both get on my nerves. I have been responsible for both at some time, mind you ;).
6. What is something on your bucket list?

Write a book. I’ve had ideas for one for some time and have to stop making excuses and start writing.
7. What TV show/invention/etc. is most ruining the youth of America?

Haha wow, that’s a rough question! I don’t know if I’d say this is ‘ruining’ today’s youth-but I think in general, the immediacy and reliance on social media and technology-is making it difficult for our current generation to learn the value of face to face engagement. Socializing over social media is one thing-but learning how to truly sit down and engage someone-even yourself, the ability to take solitude- without reliance on technology, is overlooked and undervalued.
8. If you could pick one age to be for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?

Oh wow, I wouldn’t. I know we all fantasize about being 21 again, even for a minute, because we feel like we’d have less problems or be less attached, but in reality-we’d be just as overwhelmed or defeated, or lost. I have to accept what’s going on in my life, and accept the fact that we’re all aging and that’s a part of life. Thankfully, I’m young and value both my present and future-so I think I’ve got many happy years ahead of me.
9. Who is your current celebrity crush?

Hmmmmm…gotta be honest, I wouldn’t say I ‘crush’ hard on celebrities, but I’ve been watching the HBO series “Girls” for a season or two now, and gotta say the character Desi, or Ebon Moss-Bachrach is pretty crushworthy-but it could just be his character. It’s shameful, but I’ve fallen for too many musicians before, they’re just too loveable.
10. What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

Hands down, not to dwell too much on the past, nor look too far to the future. The best advice I’ve received is to be present, to be grateful, and to be honest in what I believe is true for me right now in this moment.
11. What is the most surprising and/or rewarding and/or frustrating thing about being a mom?

How about all three? The most surprising-as cheesy as it sounds, the crazy amount of love I have for my son. I knew I’d love him but I had no idea the crazy big love I’d feel as I learn more about him. Rewarding? The fact that I know baby J is my future-all the tantrums, clean ups, late night feeding, and sore arms from carrying, will all lead to a bond that I’ll have with him forever. Frustrating? Ugh. Right now, the concept of weaning. I have a very vocal and stubborn babe on my hands, and changes in routine or day to day activities can really affect him. This is gonna be one of the hardest bridges we’ve crossed, it seems.

Well there ya have it, MichiforniaGirl! Thanks again for the nomination!

Xo,

Betty
